After undergoing a mastectomy quite often
the best form of exercise is swimming, it’s a wonderful
way to exercise all your major muscle groups and get
strong. The first step in your swimming endeavor will be
to go out and purchase some post surgery swimwear.
There have never been more mastectomy swim suits styles
and designs than there are today. Mastectomy bathing
suits are available with flattering necklines, high
v-necklines, v-backs, tankinis, bikinis, mastectomy
bathing suits with matching sarongs, plus sizes,
mastectomy swim suits with figure smoothing panels and
skirts and mastectomy tank blouses with shorts to name a
few. Some women after surgery will have breast
reconstruction while others will simply use a breast
form or prostheses. There is however another option for
women when swimming and that is the breast swim form.
Swim forms must be correctly fitted just like a regular
breast prostheses and are also available in ultra light
forms which are much more expensive. Swim forms are just
like conventional breast forms but are much lighter,
which is nice when swimming.
Weighted breast forms are good for everyday use to allow
for proper balance and protect against back and neck
pain but may be uncomfortable or heavy when swimming.
The swim form simply attaches or fits into mastectomy
swim suits wall with adhesive or into a pocket so there
are no gaps.
