Cover Up with a Sarong

A sarong is a piece of material meant for many purposes and called by different names all over the world. Very often they are beautiful enough to become wall art and added to household décor accessories. Perhaps most people think of a beach cover up when they think of a sarong but it can also be a dress or a sexy skirt for evening wear. It can be curtains or a seat cover in your car or a beach blanket when you are not wearing it. Really it is just a large piece of material that can be used in many different ways and is often used in fashion. The fashion statement made will depend on the amount of creativity that the model chooses to display. There are no rules that tell you how it must be properly worn or used. They can become any thing you want them to be.

In some parts of the world wearing a sarong is not as casual and certain styles and colors are reserved for royalty of people demanding respect. A common person would not presume to wear clothing from class they were not part of. it would not be accepted by their peers either. There is a formal code that is followed and is not often disrespected. In some points in history it was even punishable by death!

The cloth used to make a sarong goes through a process called batik. It is not an easy process but results in beautiful colors and designs with no two alike. Batik is an artistic process creating a unique look for each piece. It is like wearing a work of art and it is not hard to understand how some times they end up on the wall like tapestry.
